The Roleplaying Game of the Year 2020, Not The End, is the all-Italian title produced by the Fumble crew, declared winner of the prestigious award by the jury of Lucca Changes.

As you may already have discovered, every year we follow the new releases in the world of roleplaying games, as well as the Italian and international competitions where the new works destined to win over the wider public compete. That’s why we want to briefly introduce this game, in case you haven’t heard of it yet, while we wait for our copy to arrive.

Not The End brings to the table a brand-new system, HexSys, recommended for first-time players as well. The game’s immediacy allows a quick identification with the chosen character — a hero with unique traits venturing into a fantasy setting evoked by the manual’s excellent illustrations. The freedom of interpretation also opens the way to introspective roleplay, exploring the hero’s personality and the deep relational dynamics with the other members of the group.

The heroes of the party are thus exposed to novel, thorny situations, which they can overcome in different ways over the course of the campaigns. The consequences of the characters’ actions play a fundamental role in their evolution.

HexSys uses tokens of different colours, drawn from a bag to resolve important situations during the narration and the shared moments of play. Heroes are described by keywords placed on hexagons, representing their distinctive traits.

In the future we will write a more thorough article about our play experiences, as soon as we have tried it, to give you more elements for deciding whether to venture into the world of Not The End. For now, we suggest you also rely on this excellent review to see whether it’s for you:
